Periwinkle Foundation

Childhood Cancer & Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer and Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month and Periwinkle needs your to help spread the word!

Nationally, over 15,000 children were diagnosed with cancer in 2015, and nearly 5% of them were treated at Texas Children’s Hospital. In addition, Texas Children’s serves over 1,000 sickle cell patients each year. Since The Periwinkle Foundation’s inception in 1983, pediatric hematologists and oncologists have made great strides in improving the overall care of children with cancer and sickle cell disease. Nearly 80 percent of children diagnosed with cancer now survive. While more children are surviving, successful treatment may leave them with mental or physical complications that can impact them for the rest of their lives. Periwinkle programs play a vital role in the overall healing process of these special children, teens and families.

Periwinkle Camps, Arts and Survivor Programs serve more than 14,000 children, teens and families affected by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. This is made possible by a collaborative community of 20,000 supporters including you!
