Camp Periwinkle Days transforms the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center and Hematology Centers waiting room into summer camp. The two-day camp is packed with games, prizes and activities to positively change and enrich the lives of children challenged by cancer under care at the hospital. Camp Day touched the lives of nearly 500 children, families and hospital staff.
At Camp Day, the kids make the rules and can participate in as many activities as they want, as many times as they want. Some of those included cup stacking, arts and crafts, and the extremely popular “Kinect for Xbox 360” home run derby in the sports themed waiting room complete with a larger than life basketball goal provided by Art Attack. The Build-A-Buddy Workshop allowed kids to create their own stuffed animal to take home as a memento of the day – another hands-on activity that was a huge hit!
The next Camp Periwinkle Day will be held in June 2017.
“This is our chance to bring our larger camp, held in August, to kids that can’t always go to camp. It’s a chance for them to just be kids for a day, and we are truly thankful to BG Group as, without their support, this just wouldn’t be possible.”
– Joe Birkofer, Former Board President & Board Member
“Camp Periwinkle Day was a tremendous success thanks to the healthcare professionals at Texas Children’s Hospital, The Periwinkle Foundation organizers and the BG Group volunteers who for the second year brought joy and smiles to these children and their families.”
– David Keane, Vice President of Policy & Corporate Affairs for BG Group in Houston
