April is National Poetry Month! In celebration, we’re excited to relaunch the series “Make it a Splendid Week”! Follow along weekly to enjoy excerpts from The Splendid Review, an anthology of poems, short stories and autobiographies written by talented young writers engaged in the Periwinkle Arts In Medicine Program at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers.

To get us started on this first day of April, an usually cold day in Houston, we’re channeling our inner princess snowgirl.

Princess Snowgirl

Princess Snowgirl is the cutest snowman of all.

Her body has three circles made of giant snowballs.

Her crown is orange and shiny.

Her arms are made of tree sticks.

She has green plants on top for the hair.

Her eyes and mouth are made of tiny black rocks.

And she has other black rocks to make her pretty.

And she has a carrot for her nose.

I dream of making her a snow castle!

It would look like a giant snow castle.

It would have rooms just like a home.

I would decorate it with jewels and sprinkles.

Princess Snowgirl would feel so happy about that!
