In May 2016, we heard the devastating news that our 2-year-old son, Owen, had brain cancer. After one brain surgery and six months of chemotherapy, we faced those same heartbreaking words again in June of the following year. Owen’s cancer had returned.

Thankfully, living in Houston, we had access to the best medical team and treatment options. We made the difficult but necessary decision to fight as hard as his little body would allow. Owen underwent two more brain surgeries, high-dose proton radiation to his brain and spine, and four rounds of high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell rescues.

This year, on February 14th, we proudly celebrated Owen’s seventh year of survivorship. Seven years of being a kid. Seven years of healing from the medical trauma we faced as a family.

Periwinkle is truly among the best of the best. Our absolute favorite program of Periwinkle’s is camp, and our favorite part of Camp Periwinkle is the pictures. Every day during camp, photos are posted, and all of us, parents, grandparents, and loved ones, look forward to seeing our kids captured in the moment, simply having fun and experiencing a normal camp life.

Our family builds our summer plans around Camp. Our children (us parents, too), wouldn’t dream of missing it! From fabulous makeovers with the best products to nighttime candy raids, and the kindest of souls creating buttons for all the campers, our children return home with the best stories and the
biggest smiles.

We are grateful for the memories and respite that Camp Periwinkle has given our family. We can’t wait for Camp Periwinkle 2025 and all the new adventures it will bring! And the pictures!
